EKG Test

Scheduling and Directions

Emory Decatur Hospital and Emory Hillandale offer electrocardiogram (EKG), a painless test to record the electrical activity of your heart

An EKG test in Atlanta at DeKalb Medical is used to measure:

  • Any damage to the heart
  • How fast your heart is beating and whether it is beating normally
  • The effects of drugs or devices used to control the heart (such as a pacemaker)
  • The size and position of your heart chambers

An EKG test is a very useful tool for determining whether a person has heart disease. Your doctor may order this test if you have chest pain or palpitations. An EKG test may be included as part of a routine examination in patients over age 40.

Sometimes the EKG test we offer is done while you are exercising or under minimal stress to monitor changes in the heart. This type of EKG often is called a stress test . Another type of EKG test is done with a Holter monitor, a machine that continuously records the heart's rhythms. The monitor is usually worn for 24 to 48 hours during normal activity.
