Dr. Burkmar is a board-certified diplomate of the Obesity Medicine Association and is able to work closely with patients that suffer from obesity by providing a comprehensive, individualized plan that may include diet, physical activity, medication and overall lifestyle changes. Patients that make the decision to undergo bariatric surgery will be able to seek the assistance they need from Dr. Burkmar on best practices for both pre and post-surgery care.
Dr. Burkmar is a Credentialed Impact Consultant (CIC) and provides comprehensive care for concussion patients. She works closely with several local schools and athletics programs including Parkview, Archer, and Berkmar.
Dr. Burkmar enjoys treating patients of all ages, including newborns and geriatric patients. She has a special interest in women's healthcare and gynecology and is able to perform IUD (Mirena® & Paragard) insertions as well as the Nexplanon® implant.
Nikki Taylor attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology. She earned her Masters of Medical Science shortly after from Emory University School of Medicine. She is NCCPA certified as a Physician Assistant, licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners, and a member of American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
Prior to working with DeKalb Medical, Nikki worked as a PA at Snellville Internal Medicine for over 10 years. She has experience working with adult patients ranging in age from late adolescence through the geriatric years. Nikki enjoys primary care medicine where she can develop trusting, lasting relationships with her patients. Her goal is to provide quality, compassionate healthcare with an emphasis on health maintenance, disease prevention and patient education.
Nikki is married and has a daughter. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family at the park, playing tennis, and bike riding.
