Where is Cardiac Rehabilitation at DeKalb Medical located?
We are located in The Wellness Center on the ground floor of the 2665 Professional Building on the North Decatur campus of DeKalb Medical. Get specific driving, parking and walking directions to our facility.
How does a patient get into these programs?
A physician must refer patients to the cardiac and pulmonary programs. To refer a patient to these programs, call 404.501.7155 or fax the referral form to 404.501.7689 . Call us or fax patient’s name, diagnosis, home phone number and which program you want them in. We will then contact the patient to discuss our program, set up an orientation appointment, and give them directions to our facility.
What kinds of patients benefit?
The following diagnoses are appropriate for cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation:
- Myocardial Infarction
- Coronary Artery Bypass
- Stable Angina
- Heart Valve Replacement
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and other lung disorders.
- Heart Failure
- We can also help patients with coronary artery disease, hypertension, pulmonary restrictive diseases, and cardiomyopathy
What do the programs cost?
Medicare will cover several diagnoses. Currently, they will cover 80% of the cost of cardiac rehab for a patient with MI (within a year), CABG, stable angina, angioplasty, stent and transplant. Most insurance will cover 70% to 100% of the cost of cardiac or pulmonary rehab if the physician deems it medically necessary.
What do I wear to my sessions?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting, sport attire such as shorts or jog pants, athletic shoes and a t-shirt or polo shirt.
What are your hours of operation?
Each new patient will be scheduled for an evaluation and orientation appointment. Please contact the Heart Wellness Center to be scheduled for this. After orientation you will be able to begin the rehab program.
Cardiac and Rehab hours are:Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m., 2:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Pulmonary Rehab hours are: Monday - Friday: 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
How long does a session last?
Depending on what your doctor has requested for your particular situation, exercise sessions may last 30 minutes up to an hour at a time. Please allow plenty of time during your visits before and after exercising for changing clothes, applying and removing monitors, blood pressure checks, bathroom breaks, etc.
Is there free parking?
Yes. The Wellness Center stamps your parking ticket from the two surface lots and the parking deck. Also, there are 10 parking spaces reserved just for rehab patients in the lower surface lot. Get more information and driving, parking and walking directions.
How soon may I start coming to rehab?
Your doctor will advise how soon you may start coming to rehab. Once we have your doctor’s instructions and insurance information, we will contact you to set up your first appointment.
