Atlanta Breast Cancer
Screening and Testing
Breast cancer is the leading type of cancer among women. DeKalb Medical has developed a program which saves lives through breast cancer screening and early diagnosis, and gives hope to breast cancer patients.
The program begins with breast cancer testing. A cancer that cannot be felt may still be seen on mammography. Any woman can call or walk into this center and obtain a mammogram and a referral to a breast specialist for evaluation and examination. Because of the sophisticated breast cancer screening techniques and state-of-the-art technology, DeKalb Medical is diagnosing breast cancer at its earliest, most curable stage. This program is one of the few fully accredited by the American College of Radiology and DeKalb Medical employs only American Registered Radiologic Technologists. Listen in as Dr. April Speed talks about when to begin getting mammograms.
Breast problems do develop. Women are encouraged to perform regular breast cancer testing self examinations. If you wake up and discover a lump or any other irregularity in your breast, experts at the DeKalb Medical Specialized Breast Care Center will get the problem diagnosed immediately. You can call us, talk to one of the specially trained nurses and come in for a breast cancer screening, in most cases the very same day. A mammogram will be taken and read by a radiologist, and you will be offered a consultation with a breast specialist, usually all in the same visit. No longer does a woman have to wait for days and make trips to numerous offices and specialists before she can receive breast cancer testing and experience peace of mind. This is a patient-oriented facility and our goal is to provide patients with relief from their uncertainty and fear before the sun goes down.
Should breast cancer be diagnosed, the breast specialists at DeKalb Medical offer innovative treatment options. In early disease, every effort is made to provide breast conserving surgery so that a woman's breast may be saved by surgery limited to removing the diseased tissue. If removal of the breast is necessary, plastic surgeons offer a wide range of breast reconstruction options. Such reconstruction may be performed at the time of surgery or postponed until a later time, depending on the characteristics of the cancer and the patient and doctor’s choice. Our specialists offer state-of-the-art treatment even when cancer is diagnosed in later stages. There are a wide range of treatment options which may be offered.
