How LINX Surgery Changed My Life

LINX device

Brenda Beacham's story

“I can now go out to dinner without embarrassing myself,” said Brenda Beacham. Finally, after more than four years of coughing and clearing her throat constantly, Brenda found relief through the LINX Reflux device.  LINX is a simple, minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure which allows food to go down and keeps reflux down.

Prior to this life changing technique, she visited several doctors and was misdiagnosed and treated for asthma and allergies for years. She was taking several high dosage drugs to address and control her symptoms.  Brenda decided that staying on medication for the rest of her life was not an option.

Relief was on the way when she met Thomas Demarini, MD  who referred her to Reflux surgeon Scott Steinberg, MD at DeKalb Medical’s Heartburn Solutions Center. Steinberg collaborated with Gastroenterologist Jeffrie Kamean, MD and after several tests, the physicians discovered that acid reflux was the main culprit of Beacham's heartburn and LINX was the solution.

Beacham believes that the whole process was easier due to the collaboration between Steinberg and Kamean. "Dr. Kamean ran the tests and immediately sent the results to Dr. Steinberg. It was nice to have them work together because it made the whole process easier for me.”

Did you know that acid reflux symptoms are similar to allergies and if left untreated, can lead to cancer?  Do you suffer from a nagging cough or take medicine that fails to relieve your symptoms? To find out if you have acid reflux or heartburn, take this quick quiz.  For more information on finding a solution to your heartburn concerns, visit the Heartburn Solutions Center.  If you would like to know how the LINX procedure works, watch this short video.
