DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Announces Addition of New Physicians and Practices

March 22, 2016

The DeKalb Medical Physicians Group continues to grow its private practice offering in the eastern metro-Atlanta area with the addition of new physicians and practices.

In January, Varinder K. Singh M.D. joined North Druid Hills Internal Medicine. Dr. Singh's special interests include women's health, weight management, dermatology and preventative medicine.  Her previous experience includes Northlake Family Medicine as a private practitioner and medical director of Family Practice and Weight Loss Center of Atlanta in Duluth. Dr. Singh is Board Certified by American Board of Family Medicine as well as American Board of Bariatric Medicine.

In April, Shahid Rafique, M.D and Shazia Naib M. D. will join the new Snellville Physician Associates practice (previously New Snellville Clinic).

Dr. Rafique served the Armed forces as a physician overseas and received training in general surgery, urology, anesthesiology and aviation medicine. His experience and training qualify him to manage complex conditions in which various organ systems are involved. Typically, a patient with this type of conditions would have to see 3 or 4 different specialists. Dr. Rafique is able to handle most common conditions in the office and uses specialists’ consultation only when necessary.

Dr. Naib has worked as a hospitalist for the past 8 years at Emory University Hospital, Wesley Woods geriatric Center and rehabilitation, Eastside Medical Center and Heritage / Eastside Center for rehabilitation and the neuropsychiatry unit. She specializes in elderly patients and the diseases and disabilities that affect them, including frailty, dementia, delirium and other cognitive or mental health problems.

Carmen Echols M.D., moves to Lithonia Primary Care on April 1, 2016. Dr. Echols is a board-certified family medicine physician. Her special medical interests include adolescent medicine, diabetes, hypertension, women's health, and integrative and holistic medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Echols was previously at Flat Shoals Internal Medicine.

Dr. Echols will begin seeing patients on April 11, 2016. Both Dr. Rafique and Dr. Naib will begin seeing patients on April 18, 2016.
