For Immediate Release
ATLANTA – In 2014 DeKalb Medical in Decatur, GA generated more than $868 million revenue for the local and state economy, according to a recent report by the Georgia Hospital Association, the state’s largest hospital trade association. The report also found that, during the same time period, DeKalb Medical provided approximately $42 million in uncompensated care while sustaining more than 7,090 full-time jobs throughout the Atlanta Metro Area and the rest of the state.
The report revealed that DeKalb Medical had direct expenditures of more than $380 million in 2014. When combined with an economic multiplier developed by the United States Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, the total economic impact of those expenditures was more than $868 million. This output multiplier considers the “ripple” effect of direct hospital expenditures on other sectors of the economy, such as medical supplies, durable medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. Economic multipliers are used to model the resulting impact of a change in one industry on the “circular flow” of spending within an economy as a whole
"This report further illustrates that we are a firmly embedded, truly invested member of the DeKalb and metro communities,” DeKalb Medical CEO John Shelton said. "We’re grateful for community support and remain dedicated to providing comprehensive, high quality, affordable health care services to the area."
DeKalb Medical is committed to steady growth and improvement. The DeKalb Medical Physicians Group offers access to more than 115 physicians and continues to expand. The hospital system will also soon be launching an Emergency Room Expansion campaign to help create a more efficient, effective patient experience for those visiting the North Decatur campus.
