January 12, 2015
DeKalb Medical honored Margaret and Terry Stent on Sunday, January 11th for their life-long support and legacy of leadership to the hospital by naming the Yvonne T. Stent Radiation Oncology Center in memory of Terry Stent’s mother, who lost her battle with lung cancer.
“The Stent family has been integral to the growth and development of DeKalb Medical,” stated Leigh Minter, executive director of the DeKalb Medical Foundation. “We have been very fortunate to have philanthropist such as the Stents who are known for their passionate support of the arts, medicine and education in Atlanta.”
After having a procedure at DeKalb Medical, Terry and his wife, a former nurse, felt inspired and motivated to help others by issuing a $1 million-dollar challenge grant. This challenge inspired more than 1200 individual and corporate gifts enabling DeKalb Medical to realize its $2 million capital campaign goal in record time. The Advancing Hope and Healing campaign funded a renovation and remodel of DeKalb Medical’s North Decatur Radiation Oncology Center by adding 14,000 additional square feet to enhance care and comfort for oncology patients.
“We are happy to be in a position to give back. We have lived more than half of our lives in DeKalb County, said the Stents. “We are proud to do what we can to provide better medicine and more of it here at home.”
