DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Continues Growth

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group (DMPG) has added several new primary care physicians and specialists since the beginning of December 2013. We’re excited to have them on board and welcome them to our team.

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Montreal OB/GYN Welcomes Renowned Dr. Thomas Lyons

The DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Montreal OB/GYN announces the addition of Thomas L. Lyons, M.D., M.S., FACOG, to their practice as of January 1, 2014. He joins the team of Dr. Stuart Pancer, Dr. Leslie Pope and Dr. Elizabeth Kobe.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Lyons is considered a surgical pioneer and has received numerous awards for his breakthroughs in gynecologic surgery; he authored the LSH procedure, or Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy. He also developed the Laparoscopic Burch procedure for stress urinary incontinence. His areas of research include both alpha and beta site activities involving surgical devices and procedures, multiple activities in the area of adhesion prevention, endometriosis, tissue removal, vascular occlusion, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, managing menopausal symptomology, and female surgical sterilization.

In the last three decades, Dr. Lyons has also become known as an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. He has dedicated his career not only to women’s healthcare but to the education & training of gynecologists, particularly in the area of minimally invasive surgery. He has been a participant in numerous academic and clinical studies and authored more than 150 scholarly publications.

Raised and currently living in Atlanta, Dr. Lyons graduated from Georgia Military Academy, now Woodward, before attending The University of Georgia. While playing football and wrestling for the Bulldogs, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in clinical bio-psychology. He played six seasons for the Denver Broncos, from 1971-1976 while attending the University of Colorado medical school full time. He worked in Athens, GA from 1981-1993 as an OB/GYN. During this time he was the team physician for the Lady Dogs athletic teams and received the Glada Gunnells award for service in 1991.

Montreal OB/GYN provides routine obstetrics care and care of “high risk” pregnancies, as well as routine and specialized gynecological care for women.  They are located at 1462 Montreal Road W., Suite 412 Tucker, GA  30084.

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Welcomes Atlanta Podiatry Group

The DeKalb Medical Physicians Group is pleased to announce the addition of Atlanta Podiatry Group to its team of employed specialist physicians. The practice is located in Snellville and specializes in surgery, reconstruction, trauma and treatment of all diseases of the foot and ankle. Atlanta Podiatry Specialists brings over 25 years of experience to the team and promises to be an integral part of the DeKalb Medical Physicians Group.

Dr. Thomas Cain graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1978 and received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1982. He is a Board Certified Podiatric Physician and Surgeon of the foot and ankle.  Dr. Cain has proudly cared for the professional medical needs of the community for more than 26 years.  He is a specialist in surgery, reconstruction, trauma, sports medicine, and the treatment of all diseases and deformities of the foot and ankle.  He is dedicated to helping his patients achieve and maintain excellent foot and ankle health throughout their lifetime from pediatric, diabetic, athletic and geriatric care.

Dr. David Alder is a 1994 graduate of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, Florida. After completing his surgical residency in Tucker, Georgia, he then continued expanding his career as Residency Director of podiatric medicine and surgery at DeKalb Medical and became a faculty member of The Podiatry Institute. He is board certified in foot surgery by ABPS, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.  His professional interests are pediatric foot and ankle surgery, wound care, trauma of the foot and ankle, running injuries and biomechanics, treatment of bunions and hammertoes as well as every aspect of podiatric foot care.

Dr. Matthew Marchal Joins the DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Downtown Decatur Family Medicine

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group (DMPG) Downtown Decatur Family Medicine, a part of DeKalb Regional Health System, welcomes Dr. Matthew Marchal to its team. Their group offers adult and pediatric care, sports physicals, immunizations, wellness exams and acute care visits. 

Dr. Marchal joins the DMPG Downtown Decatur Family Medicine with many years of experience in family and sports medicine. He acquired his undergraduate degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. He completed his residency at Hanover Family Physicians in Mechanicsville, Va.

His skills include the evaluation and treatment of sports medicine injuries, including splinting and casting, nutrition and rehabilitation (with a special interest in cyclists), and minor skin surgery and wound repair.

Drs. Carmen Echols and Daryl Sherrod Join the Team at DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Flat Shoals Internal Medicine

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group (DMPG) Flat Shoals Internal Medicine, a part of DeKalb Regional Health System, is pleased to announce two new team members: Dr. Carmen Echols and Dr. Daryl Sherrod. DMPG Flat Shoals Internal Medicine provides a wide range of health care services to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses. Their services include adult medical care, routine physicals, chronic disease management and treatment.

Dr. Echols is a board-certified family medicine physician. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana, her medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., and completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta, Ga. Dr. Echols' special medical interests include adolescent medicine, diabetes, hypertension, women's health, and integrative and holistic medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians

Dr. Sherrod received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga., and his Doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga. Upon graduation, he completed his Surgery Internship at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga., then went on to achieve his Family Practice Residency at Columbus Medical Center in Columbus, Ga. Dr. Sherrod most recently served at a private practice in Conyers, Ga.

Dr. Sherrod brings more than 13 years of family practice care experience and has certified proficiencies in areas of Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He currently holds professional society memberships with the American Academy of Family Physicians, Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Atlanta Neurosurgical Associates Joins DeKalb Medical Physicians Group

The DeKalb Medical Physicians Group, part of DeKalb Regional Health System, is pleased to announce the addition of Atlanta Neurosurgical Associates as its premier brain and spinal surgery physicians. Drs. Richard Gullick, Michael Hartman and Murray Robinson make up the surgical team; they are trained in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment for the spine, brain, peripheral nerve and chronic pain ailments. With access to state-of-the-art and minimally invasive spine and brain therapies, the conditions they treat include, among other, brain tumors and trauma, back and cervical pain, upper extremity nerve pain and disk herniation.

Dr. Gullick received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gullick entered active duty with the United States Army in 2001, completed a tour of duty in Iraq in 2004 and returned stateside to become the chief of neurosurgery at Brooke Army Medical Center until he became a civilian in 2008. He specializes in the treatment of disorders of the spine, brain and peripheral nerves. He is certified by the American Board of Neurologic Surgeons. He has a special interest in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of these disorders.

Dr. Hartman is a board-certified neurosurgeon. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio and completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of Tennessee, Center for Health Sciences in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Hartman is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Georgia Neurosurgical Society, Medical Association of Georgia and the American Medical Association. His main areas of interest are minimally invasive spine surgery, pituitary surgery, computer guided brain surgery, Chiari malformation management and microsurgery.

Dr. Robinson received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his neurosurgery training at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Robinson is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Georgia Neurosurgical Society. Dr. Robinson is certified to use the gamma knife for radiosurgery. He also has special interest in complex spinal surgery/reconstruction as well as functional neurosurgery including spinal cord stimulation.

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Welcomes Atlanta ENT Specialists

DeKalb Medical Physicians Group, an affiliate of DeKalb Medical, recently welcomed Atlanta ENT Specialists to its prestigious and growing network of health care specialists. Atlanta ENT Specialists offers services such as facial reconstructive plastic surgery, head and neck cancer treatment, sinus and ear surgery, and a wide range of cosmetic plastic surgery.

Dr. Shivan Amin, M.D. is a board-certified Otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon). He subspecializes in face and neck plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures including rhinoplasty, facelift, facial reanimation, skin cancer treatment with defect reconstruction, and complex head and neck trauma. He received his medical degree from The Medical College of Georgia and was one of only forty candidates in North America to receive an American Academy Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship position with Dr. William Silver, one of the founders of plastic surgery, at Emory University.

Dr. Preston Imhof, D.O. is board certified by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and received his certification in Balloon Sinuplasty™, a minimally invasive procedure that involves opening up the sinus passages to relieve sinus pain and pressure. He specializes in thyroid surgery, head and neck cancer, pediatrics including ear tubes and tonsillectomies, and nasal and vocal cord diseases. Dr. Imhof completed his medical degree at the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He has received numerous honors including the leadership position of presidency of the Blue Key International Honor Fraternity and membership at Sigma Sigma Phi National Honor Fraternity - an honorary osteopathic service fraternity.
