Khan Earns Distinguished Service Award from CEP America
October 07, 2013
DeKalb Medical and its Chief of Emergency Medicine & Systems Medical Director Sofia Khan, M.D., earned the 2013 Distinguished Service Award from CEP America at its recent annual partnership meeting. The award was recognition and appreciation of her outstanding contributions to the partnership, of which DeKalb Medical is in the national network of 100 hospitals and 1,800 providers.
After serving nearly five years as Chief of Emergency Medicine & Medical Director at DeKalb Medical at Hillandale, Khan has been in her system-wide role since March. Her focus on patient-centered care has included appointment of a new leadership team of physicians, implementation of two systems that decreases patients’ length of stay and reduces their wait times, recruitment of physicians from top residency programs, working with nurse leadership to improve operations, and working with ancillary departments to reduce turnaround times.
CEP America is a national partnership of Emergency Medicine and Hospital providers. DeKalb Medical has contracted with it to staff and manage the hospital’s Emergency Department since 2005.
Khan’s responsibilities as Systems Medical Director include oversight of clinical, strategic and financial direction of the department, which sees tens of thousands of patients annually and features over 100 clinical staff members.
