March 07, 2013
Decatur, GA (March 6, 2013) -
DeKalb Medical Wellness on Wheels was awarded a $35,000 grant by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, held October 5-6, 2013. The grant will fund screening mammograms and breast diagnostic services, including biopsy in the underserved areas of DeKalb and surrounding communities. This grant is one of 19 It’s The Journey awarded this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.
"Wellness on Wheels is grateful to It's the Journey for providing these grant funds so that more women can be screened for breast cancer each year," said Janet Rizan, Executive Director of Wellness on Wheels. "It's the Journey and Wellness On Wheels have partnered for many years in the fight against breast cancer, and we are very happy to continue this partnership to meet our ultimate goal of diagnosing breast cancer in the earlier stages and decreasing mortality."
The 19 recipients included those who provide screening and treatment to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices and offer multi-language treatment options.
“We work all year for this one night – to present grants to the most deserving breast health and breast cancer programs in the state,” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey, Inc. “We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical exams to hereditary screening and follow-up treatment for breast cancer. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities.”
