DeKalb Medical Names New Executive Director for Corporate Health and Wellness
November 13, 2012
Decatur, GA – As part of its mission to provide uncompromising commitment to quality health care, DeKalb Medical has hired Shealynn Buck, M.D., to be its Executive Director for Corporate Health and Wellness. Buck will create, integrate and deliver a portfolio of health solutions that promote the long-term physical, mental, and social well-being of DeKalb Medical employees, business partners and municipalities, and the metro Atlanta community.
“We recognize as a health care organization that we need to take the lead in promoting the health of individuals in the community,” Buck said. “That has to start with our employees.”
Buck’s goal is to develop and implement engaging, results-oriented, sustainable, and scalable population health programs that promote the highest level of individual quality of life and overall organization performance. She will build on DeKalb Medical’s current well-established occupational medicine and health program, and community outreach programs such as Wellness on Wheels, which includes mammography and health screenings and education.
“We know that chronic disease is one of the leading factors in increased employer health care costs and reduction of employee performance,” Buck said. “We want to support area employers in addressing the health needs of their employees, including health risk analysis, targeted disease prevention programs, and activities that help to engage employees in healthy lifestyle behaviors.”
Before joining DeKalb Medical, Buck was owner of Prescription to Thrive, LLC, a firm specializing in health and wellness strategic consulting and communications services. After graduating from Kennesaw State University, she attended Emory University School of Medicine, where she obtained her M.D., and followed with a residency and fellowship in Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Buck is certified by the American Board of Pathology and is a Certified Professional Health and Wellness Coach by Wellcoaches®.
Buck is a member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality, Georgia Association for Healthcare Quality, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, American College for Physician Executives, American College of Sports Medicine, National Wellness Institute, and serves on Kennesaw State University boards for the College of Science & Mathematics and Coles College of Business.
Buck is also DeKalb Medical’s spokesperson in virtual tour videos posted at DeKalbMedical.org.
