On the state level, past DeKalb Medical Auxiliary President, Frechia Barrett will serve as the auxiliary president for State of Georgia Council of Auxiliary Volunteers. “This is a great honor to have one of our own serve on the state level”, said Leigh Minter, DeKalb Medical Foundation Executive Director “It solidifies the fact that we have an outstanding auxiliary.”
Since the last awards banquet in 2011, auxilians have volunteered more than 41,711 hours of service to DeKalb Medical. Among this group, are several individuals who have contributed more than 15,000 hours and/or more than 10 years of their time to the system. “We are so proud of our auxilians, and humbled to have the opportunity to work with such a great group”, said Minter. “They not only contribute their time, but have made a major impact in our foundation’s ability to provide the hospital with some of its critical needs.” In September, DeKalb Medical Auxilians, through the Auxiliary Wish List, donated $29,174 to various departments within the system to help support them in their efforts to provide quality service. Most recently, the auxiliary presented a check in the amount of $53,011 to the DeKalb Medical Foundation from proceeds from the Dogwood Gift Shop located on the North Decatur campus.
DeKalb Medical volunteers play a meaningful role in the daily operation of the hospital, and opportunities are available for teenagers, college students and adults – each with specific criteria for membership.
