DeKalb Medical Names New CEO Former COO John Shelton Named to Lead Health System
October 06, 2011
Decatur, GA -- Former DeKalb Medical Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, John Shelton, FACHE, will rejoin the health system next month as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Shelton left the System last winter to accept a position at Mobile Infirmary, Alabama’s largest not-for-profit hospital.
Shelton was instrumental in DeKalb Medical’s revitalization during the past several years, overseeing pivotal enterprise initiatives, including;
- The opening of DeKalb Medical at Hillandale,
- The addition of the state-of-the-art patient tower for maternity and surgical services at the North Decatur Road campus,
- A total campus renovation which resulted in all-private rooms and spa-like décor,
- The recruitment of a number of physician specialists to the market, and
- The introduction of the System’s award winning Joint Solutions Center and Heart and Vascular Institute.
"We are thrilled to have John back," said Diane Harden, chief financial officer and interim CEO. "We look forward to continued growth with his leadership."
According to Oliver Lee, chairman of the DeKalb Regional Health System Board of Directors, the Board immediately thought of John when Eric Norwood resigned last month. "John has a good record here. He knows our System and has good relationships with the physicians and staff,” said Lee. "We called him to see if he was interested in taking a step up to a CEO role, and to our delight, he was. We feel confident that under John’s leadership, we will be able to provide the type of healthcare our community wants and deserves," added Lee.
Shelton is expected to return to DeKalb Medical in November.
