Norwood Resigns from DeKalb Medical
September 19, 2011
Decatur, GA -- Eric P. Norwood, FACHE announced his resignation today as President and Chief Executive Officer of DeKalb Regional Health System, Inc. (DRHS). DRHS includes three hospitals, DeKalb Medical at North Decatur, DeKalb Medical at Downtown Decatur and DeKalb Medical at Hillandale, as well as the DeKalb Medical Physicians Group. Norwood has been President and CEO of the System since 2003.
Diane Harden, the System’s Chief Financial Officer, will act as interim president and CEO while the DeKalb Regional Health System Board of Directors conducts a search for a new President.
Norwood departs the System reflecting on significant changes and accomplishments. Under his leadership, DRHS opened a new 100-bed hospital off of Hillandale Road in South DeKalb and built a new Womens’ and Surgical Tower on the North Decatur campus.
“We overcame huge challenges along the way. We managed a successful financial turnaround over four years as we brought our new facilities on line and updated the North Decatur campus. We were pioneers in the use of electronic medical records, opening our hospital at Hillandale as Georgia’s first digital hospital; brought nearly 100 new physicians to our medical staffs and the community; and were able to earn an investment grade credit rating and refinance our long-term debt last year, giving the organization stable financial footing for the future. I’ve accomplished what I set out to do nine years ago, and am now excited for the opportunity to take on new challenges.” Norwood said. “I am extremely proud of DeKalb Medical. Its employees, medical staff, board of directors and its many devoted volunteers serve our community heroically every day. It has been my honor, privilege and joy to serve alongside them.”
DRHS Board Chairman, Oliver Lee commended Norwood’s work. “Eric is a great visionary and team builder. He pulled together a team that has produced significant improvement in operating performance during his tenure, and he established a culture focused on clinical quality. We appreciate Eric’s willingness to provide ongoing input as we transition to a new chief executive officer.”
