Chemodesensitization Success Published in Medical Journal
July 28, 2011
Atlanta, GA -- DeKalb Medical is pleased to announce that the work of two of its physicians has been published in the peer-reviewed medical journal, Community Oncology. Allergist Dr. George Gottlieb co-authored the article with Oncologists Dr. R. Allen Lawhead, Jr., Dr. Rodolfo Bordoni and Dr. Bruce A. Feinberg, detailing their research with DeKalb Medical's Rapid Chemotherapy Desensitization program. Entitled “Successful outpatient desensitization of cancer patients with hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapy,” the article has reached an audience of more than 26,000 physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and administrators.
The Decatur, Ga. campus of DeKalb Medical is one of only a few facilities in the United States to offer this procedure in an outpatient, non-academic setting. Since the program's inception at DeKalb Medical's Cancer Center in 2009, hundreds of patients have benefited from this procedure, including Cheryl Friedman, a 7-year cancer survivor. She says, "The rapid desensitization program is another reason why I love DeKalb Medical. Everyone works together as a team."
