Recovering from cancer: Look good, feel better

October 17, 2018

Emory Decatur Hospital (EDH) offers many cancer support programs for Atlanta women recovering from cancer. One of the most popular programs is the American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better program. This is a free program that has been helping women deal with appearance-related changes from cancer treatment since 1989.

Every woman recovering from cancer experiences very personal appearance changes brought about by cancer treatment. A licensed cosmetologist, such as Angela Smith pictured above (standing on the right), shows cancer participants how to apply make-up to compensate for the loss of eyelashes, red blotches, under-eye circles and other cancer treatment-related appearance changes.

Each participant receives a free make-up kit with donated products which match their skin tones. The program leaders encourage the ladies to put on make-up even when they are feeling poorly to boost their mood and appearance.

The techniques learned at the Look Good, Feel Better program help participants develop their own personal style. From make-up and special nail care to wigs and hairpieces, this support group helps participants feel and look their best throughout their cancer journey.

Call 404.501.EASY or 404-501-WELL to register and join the group at an upcoming session.
