“Service” is an important word to Walt C. Bryde, owner of Walton C. Bryde and Associates, a local accounting firm and a new member of the DeKalb Medical Foundation’s Board of Trustees. When he is asked to serve on a board, he does more than put his name on the letterhead.
“I’m often asked for my financial expertise as an accountant, but I have a broad background of board experiences,” explains Bryde. “I enjoy working with others to identify an organization’s needs and help the organization continue moving forward.” Leadership DeKalb, Six Star Refugee Partnership and the Alliance for Children Everywhere are just a few of the organizations for which Bryde has served as a board member. “I look forward to contributing my experience to the Foundation’s continued success,” he adds.
Community service has been a part of Bryde’s life since childhood. “My mother always told me not to wait to serve others,” says Bryde. “Many people wait until they are older to volunteer, but you miss wonderful opportunities,” he says. He, along with his wife, children and grandchildren, continue to follow his mother’s advice. “Community service is not something I and members of my family just do, it is a part of who we are.”
