Mary Anne Batchelor
Her desire to help others showed up early in her life, says Mary Anne Batchelor, healthcare specialist for RICOH USA, a provider of office technology and software solutions for healthcare, and a DeKalb Medical Foundation board member. “In first grade, I remember asking my mom if I could bring a classmate home for a bath and to give her some of my clothes,” she says. “I guess I’ve always had a heart for those who are less fortunate.”
Batchelor enjoys her role with DeKalb Medical’s Foundation. For a number of years, her company has been a key sponsor of special events such as the Foundation golf tournaments and Nightingala. Her role in those sponsorships gave her a chance to get to know other volunteers and see what the Foundation dollars support. Although her company provided financial support as well as contributing printed materials for the Foundation, she wanted to become more involved. “I wanted to be part of something special and I wanted to be hands on,” she explains.
Wellness on Wheels, a community program that brings healthcare to areas that are typically underserved, is one of Batchelor’s favorite programs. “I’m a member of my company’s diversity council and I know that our community includes people from many different countries with a wide range of languages,” she says.
Because they don’t always have access to preventative healthcare, Wellness on Wheels is a much-needed service.
Whether the service is Wellness on Wheels, the Physicians’ Care Clinic or DeKalb’s accredited cancer program, Batchelor supports the goals of DeKalb Medical and the Foundation. “We can provide services in a way that makes them feel cared for and loved, while preserving their dignity.”
