Gregory and Betty Levett
Inspired by the “hard-working staff and administration” at DeKalb Medical, in 2007 Gregory and Betty Levett chose to support their community through a charitable gift to the DeKalb Medical Foundation. The Levett legacy spans four generations and dates back more than 50 years, when Greg’s grandfather, Lucious Levett, became a pioneer in the funeral industry.
“We want to leave a legacy of service to our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” says Gregory B. Levett, Sr., founder of Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home Inc. “We hope that donating to the Foundation will set a precedent of doing whatever you can to help the community,” he says.
The Levett’s commitment to serving their community doesn’t stop with charitable gifts. Mr. Levett serves as a member of the Board of Directors of DeKalb Regional Healthcare System, DeKalb Medical’s parent company and he is involved in 100 Black Men of DeKalb, the local chapter of a nationwide organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and enhance education and economic opportunities for all African-Americans. Mrs. Levett serves as a member at large on the DeKalb Medical Foundation Board of Trustees and is a member of the Signature Gifts Committee.
According to Mr. Levett, their donation is simply “another way to support the families that have supported him throughout the years.”
