Cyril Spann, M.D.
Becoming part of DeKalb Medical’s physician team that provides top-quality care to cancer patients is not the only way Cyril O. Spann Jr., M.D., a gynecological oncologist and one of Atlanta magazine’s Top Docs for many years, wants to improve the health of the DeKalb community. In addition to caring for patients, the award-winning professor of medicine pledged his support to DeKalb Medical’s $2 million capital campaign, Advancing Hope and Healing … One Story at a Time.
His initial donation of $2,701 reflects DeKalb Medical’s address—2701 North Decatur Road. It’s an address that is quickly becoming synonymous with quality cancer care according to Spann, who has performed more than 110 advanced robotic-assisted surgeries to treat ovarian and other cancers.
“I thought the donation would be a good place to start. It’s a unique number that reflects the uniqueness of the ‘whole person’ care DeKalb Medical is committed to providing for our patients and community,” says Spann. DeKalb Medical’s Cancer Center provides the latest minimally invasive cancer treatments and has a full complement of physicians, research nurses and patient navigators to ensure support for patients through every step of the healing process.
“The future is bright,” shares Spann, who says technological advances in cancer care and prevention are increasing life spans and improving self-image for thousands of women with gynecological malignancies. DeKalb Medical’s capital campaign supports the renovation and expansion of the Radiation Oncology Program at DeKalb Medical’s North Decatur campus.
