Surgical Associates combines state-of the-art technology with years of experience in order to provide our patients with the best possible care. Our physicians are board-certified Fellows of the American College of Surgeons. We have performed thousands of operations with outstanding results. Our surgeons have expertise in surgery for benign and malignant disease of the breast, thyroid, parathyroid, colon, and gallbladder using the minimally invasive approach.
In addition, we manage a certified Center of Excellence for weight loss surgery and have performed over 1,500 laparoscopic gastric bypass and gastric banding procedures with outstanding results.
Dr. Sidney L. Stapleton is certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. He is a graduate of Emory University and Emory University School of Medicine, and completed his surgical training at the University of Virginia before serving in the United States Air Force. He has been in the practice of general surgery in Atlanta since 1974.
Dr. Scott D. Steinberg is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 1995.
He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has lectured on various surgical topics at national meetings throughout the country.
Steinberg is a fellowship-trained advanced laparoscopic surgeon. He is a
member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He completed a colorectal oncology
research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New
Dr. Steinberg performs all types of laparoscopic and open hernia surgeries. His practice emphasizes the minimally invasive approach to manage benign and malignant diseases of the breast, colon, gallbladder, stomach, spleen, thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
Dr. Steinberg is the Medical Director of the Surgical Weight Loss Center at Dekalb Medical. This center has been designated as an ASMBS Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery. He has performed over 2,000 laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and lap band procedures for morbid obesity.
He has also served as the Chief of the Department of Surgery at DeKalb Medical and is on the Board of Directors of the DeKalb Surgical Alliance.
Dr. Qammar N. Rashid received her undergraduate training at Fairfield University in Connecticut before obtaining a Masters of Science degree from Georgetown University. She completed her medical and surgical training at Howard University College of Medicine and Howard University Hospital. During her residency, she spent two years conducting innovative research in the arena of burn and trauma care at the University of Miami. Her findings have been published and presented at numerous scientific gatherings.
Practicing general surgery since 2005, Dr. Rashid completed her fellowship in the sub-specialty of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. In addition to minimally invasive general surgery, a large part of her practice is breast and bariatric surgery. She has performed over 1,000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries with great success.
Dr. Rashid is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She is currently the Chief of the Department of Surgery at DeKalb Medical and served as the Vice Chief from 2012 to 2014. In addition, she serves on the following committees: Cancer Liaison Physician, Surgical Quality Improvement, Clinical Quality, OR Committee, among others. She is the 2015 Secretary for the DeKalb Medical Society.
Dr. Julie McGill is one of the few fellowship trained Endocrine Surgeons in the southeastern United States. She specializes in the surgical treatment of diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1997. She then attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC for graduate school and medical school. She received a Masters of Science in 1999 and her Medical Degree in 2003.
Doctor McGill completed her general surgery internship and residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois between 2003 and 2008. She then was accepted into an Endocrine Surgery fellowship at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. In 2009, Dr. McGill was one of fourteen American surgeons that year to complete an Endocrine Surgery fellowship. The training focused on thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery and adrenal surgery.
Dr. McGill is a licensed doctor in Georgia and is Board Certified as a General Surgeon by the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of The American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, a group of physicians dedicated to the advancement of the science and art of endocrine surgery and the maintenance of high standards in the practice of endocrine surgery.
She is also member of The American College of Surgeons, The Association of Women Surgeons and The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
She speaks Spanish and has participated in Spanish language immersion programs in Spain and Ecuador. Doctor McGill is married with three children. Her hobbies include reading, swimming and she loves to travel.
Michelle Hosang is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse. She received her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Georgia State University.
Michelle’s experience includes family care from geriatric and adult health to pediatrics, as well as specialties including breast and oncology. Before joining Surgical Associates, she was a Nurse Clinician focused primarily on surgical oncology. Her working experience also includes medical-surgical inpatient nursing care and services associated with aesthetics, health and beauty.
She is a professional member of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Association (ANA), Georgia Nurses Association (GNA) and the Society of Plastic Surgery Skin Care Specialists (SPSSCS).
In her spare time, Michelle enjoys traveling. She resides in Midtown with her husband and two dogs.
