At DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Hillandale Breast Surgery you can come for simple exams such as an annual breast exam, or more detailed exams to evaluate a problem and develop a treatment plan. If you need diagnostic testing, such as mammography, or surgical procedures, the outpatient and hospital services are available on the same campus as our office.

Oncoplastic surgery option

Because Dr. Speed has received specialized training in oncoplastics, some patients who undergo breast surgery for cancer can opt for reconstructive surgery at the same time as their cancer surgery. Oncoplastics is a new treatment method that allows immediate reconstruction at the same time as breast cancer surgery such as a mastectomy, in appropriately selected patients.

Using the oncoplastics treatment technique, Dr. Speed collaborates with a plastic surgeon to perform the breast cancer and reconstructive surgeries all in the same procedure. In the past, patients had to undergo a separate operation at a later date for reconstructive surgery.

Other services offered by Dr. Speed include:

• Breast Sonography/Ultrasound
  Enhances the clinical breast examination.
• Needle Biopsy
  A small needle is inserted into a mass in the breast and cells are withdrawn for examination.
• Mammotome Biopsy
  A core of tissue is obtained for a preliminary pre-operative diagnosis.
• Cyst Aspiration
  Fluid is drained from a cyst found in the breast.
• Placement of Mammosite Balloon
  A small catheter is implanted in the breast. The radiation targets the area where cancer is most likely to recur. Treatment is completed in five days versus six weeks.
