DeKalb Medical has been providing the Atlanta community with comprehensive cancer care for more than 20 years. Over the years, our patients and their families have learned to trust the knowledge, skills and dedication of our cancer physicians.

The gynecologic oncology specialists at DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Atlanta Gynecologic Oncology Specialists will work closely with you and your family as a team to provide the most current cancer information, diagnostic procedures and treatment options available. These specially trained gynecological oncology professionals and their support services staff provide patient- and family-centered care in an atmosphere of compassion, commitment, trust and healing.

Dr. Boveri received his bachelor’s degree and attended medical school at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He completed his internship and residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in Missouri, and completed his medical training in Gynecologic Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

He has been practicing Gynecologic Oncology in Atlanta since 1994. He has served as Assistant Professor in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine and continues to serve as Associate Professor in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Medical College of Georgia. He is the former Chief of Gynecology at Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta and former Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Atlanta Medical Center. Dr. Boveri specializes in different areas including Cancer Prevention, Gastrointestinal Cancer, and Gyn Cancer Cancer Education Cancer Prevention Tumor Biology Molecular Biology Growth Factors Cytokines.

Dr. Boveri is certified by the American Board of OB/GYN Gynecologic Oncology. He is a member of the American College of OB/GYN, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Surgeons, International GYN Cancer Society and the Georgia Obstetrical Gynecological Society.

Dr. Boveri is accepting appointments at both the North Decatur and Sandy Springs locations.

Dr. Spann received his undergraduate degree from St. Andrews College. After receiving his medical degree at Meharry Medical College, he completed the gynecology and obstetrics residency at Emory University. He served as chief administrative resident during his senior year and decided to stay on as faculty in a teaching role for medical students and residents. He then entered and completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Spann completed a master’s degree in health care management at the Harvard University School of Public Health in 2004.

Dr. Spann is board certified in gynecologic oncology, as well as obstetrics and gynecology. He specializes in gynecological malignancies and ovarian cancer. He has completed over 110 robotic surgery cases. He is a Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. His primary instructional role in the department is teaching advanced surgical techniques to residents. He also served as a surgical consultant to faculty at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown. He served as chief, Emory Gynecology and Obstetrics Service, Emory University Hospital Midtown. Dr. Spann also participates in groundbreaking research and clinical trials. His focus includes placing patients on protocols for various gynecologic malignancies and gynecologic surgery.

Dr. Spann has received numerous teaching awards from residents and medical students. He received the 1997 National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the 1998 Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award. In 1998, he was chosen Best Gynecology-Obstetrics Attending for the third time by the Emory School of Medicine's senior class and has been named Best Attending by the residents numerous times. He has sponsored dozens of Resident Research Day projects and is a mentor for those interested in pursuing fellowship or private practice opportunities.

Georgia S. Mansour completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science and minor in Creative Studies at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She then completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Louisiana State University- Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She is nationally certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and is certified as a Physician Assistant in the state of Georgia. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants.

Georgia recently graduated from LSU’s physician assistant program as class president and is looking forward to beginning her career with GOSA patients. She works primarily with Dr. Joseph Boveri and plays an integral role in patient care. She takes part in all aspects of patient care at GOSA including providing inpatient and outpatient preoperative and postoperative care, providing outpatient follow-up care for cancer surveillance, and first assisting in the OR.
