Career Advancements

At DeKalb Medical, there are many employment and career advancement opportunities throughout the organization. From our three hospital campuses to the DeKalb Medical Physicians Group, our variety of locations, facilities and specialties means that our employees can find the right role, the right location and the right team — all right here at DeKalb Medical. We partner with employees to transfer and advance within our organization.

We value our employees and the knowledge they bring to our organization. Through nursing shared governance, leadership training and staff nurse representatives on various committees, DeKalb Medical involves our employees in our decision-making processes.

Our leadership takes pride in their open-door policy and they make themselves available to our staff whenever they are needed — whether the need is patient-related, an idea for process improvement or simply the need to talk to someone. That’s what caring is all about and what our staff have come to value as part of their partnership with DeKalb Medical.

Because we believe customer service excellence sets up apart from other healthcare organizations, we ask our employees to commit to service excellence standards. These include appearance, accessibility, courtesy, competency, dignity, flexibility, security and performance. It’s just another way we ensure that we are providing excellent care in every possible way to the patients we serve, to each other and to our community.

Helping Care Partners Grow

DeKalb Medical is committed to helping our employees grow. We offer a variety of educational and professional development opportunities at all levels. Along with an extensive and comprehensive in-house continuing education program, tuition reimbursement, loan repayment and scholarships help our employees further their education.

Our paid nurse residency programs allow growth, development and career advancement and a change in specialty. We offer all-inclusive residency programs for new nursing graduates, experienced nurses who want to specialize or change their specialty and nurses who have been away from the bedside and want to return to a hospital setting. Our comprehensive orientation program includes classroom and clinical time under the direction of a dedicated preceptor on the assigned unit.

The nurse extern program at DeKalb Medical gives rising junior and senior nursing students the opportunity to work while going to nursing school plus earn compensation credit for extern experience upon graduation from nursing school and passing the NCLEX.

The DeKalb Medical School of Radiologic Technology offers a 24-month, 40-hour-per-week, full-time certification program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
