DeKalb Medical invites those who are thinking about pursuing a career in nursing to participate in its Nurse Shadow Program. Selected participants will spend a morning or afternoon with a nurse in a nursing unit and learn about patient care and other responsibilities at one of DeKalb Medical's three hospital campuses. Participants can choose among several nursing units for Shadow Day, including:

Emergency department
Intensive care/critical care unit
Intravenous therapy department
Long-term acute care
Medical/surgical units (orthopedic, gynecological, vascular, thoracic, plastic, bariatric, neurological and general surgery)
Medical unit for illnesses such as diabetes, pneumonia and stroke
Mother/baby unit
Oncology/renal unit
Outpatient surgery center
Wound care center
Patient care support services
Selection of the nursing unit will be based upon the availability of the nursing unit and nursing schedules. The Nurse Shadow Program is available throughout the year.
