DeKalb Medical offers a unique treatment program for patients with hand and upper extremity injuries. Our program identifies and meets the individual needs of patients, and a licensed therapist provides one-on-one care. The hand team is comprised of a certified hand therapist and other therapists who have received specialized training in hand therapy. The goal of the program is to increase the overall function of the hand and upper extremity to perform functional and vocational activities. We make it our practice to keep referral sources well informed of their patients' progress with concise, accurate documentation. We also have an on-site case manager who assists with facilitating open communication between all parties to ensure that the desired outcome is achieved.
The conditions treated can include but are not limited to cumulative trauma injuries (CTS to DeQuarvains), tendon repairs, traumatic injuries, fractures, amputations, wounds, skin grafts/flaps and neuropathies. A wide variety of treatment options can be implemented based on individual treatment plans. These may include the following items: custom splinting, wound care, modalities, scar management, edema control, range of motion, patient education and a customized home exercise program.
