Decatur, GA – The DeKalb Medical Auxiliary continues to make dreams come true for DeKalb Medical staff, patients and the community.
This past year, the DeKalb Medical Auxiliary has donated nearly $25,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies to 15 departments, enabling those departments to improve patient care and better serve the community. Some of the donations include:
- A laptop computer and rolling cart for Occupational Health nurses to meet employees at their work stations throughout the hospital to do annual health screenings
- Special lift chairs sometimes called “Gerichairs” for patients at the Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) facility in Downtown Decatur
- Nursing education supplies and resources for ongoing training at the Hillandale campus
In the past five years, the DeKalb Medical Auxiliary has donated nearly $133,000 worth of medical supplies and equipment to 51 departments throughout DeKalb Medical. The Auxiliary raises funds through specialty sales to make these donations possible. Some of these sales include the ever-popular $5 jewelry sale, a cookware sale, linen sale in autumn and a leather goods sale during the winter holiday season, to name a few.
DeKalb Medical Volunteer Services Director Linda Dacey-Caban applauds the Auxiliary members, as well as people who purchase items from DeKalb Auxiliary sales. “The proceeds from Auxiliary sales are used to purchase items on the DeKalb Medical Auxiliary Wish List. When you buy from an Auxiliary sale, you are helping DeKalb Medical departments provide vital services for the entire community,” said Dacey-Caban.
According to Janot Sauerbrey, of the Auxiliary’s Ways and Means Board, “The thing we feel best about is the fact that all of the profits go right back to the hospital. An added benefit is the service we are providing to employees so that they can shop onsite.” According to Sauerbrey, about 45 volunteers help with Auxiliary sales. The volunteers graciously donate their time from 6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on a sale day.
