DeKalb Medical’s Long Term Acute Care Facility
Our Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) specializes in the treatment of medically complex, catastrophically injured or critically ill patients who require a longer hospital stay than at a traditional acute care facility, and who require specialized, expert care and rehabilitation. Our unique expertise allows patients to recover without strict time limits— typically 20 to 30 days.
Our physician-led team of nurses, respiratory and physical therapists, occupational and speech therapists, case managers and dietitians collaboratively apply their expertise to each patient for the best possible outcome. Our goal is to return patients to their highest-functioning level.
LTAC began in 1996 with 19 beds. Since then, we’ve grown to 40 beds, including a six-bed Special Care Unit (SCU). All rooms are private, ensuring that patients experience maximum comfort during their stay.
In 2006, DeKalb Medical’s Long Term Acute Care became the only hospital in the United States certified by The Joint Commission for Disease Specific Care for patients diagnosed with respiratory failure and patients on a ventilator. Having earned re-certification in 2008, we proudly remain the only U.S. hospital to hold this specialized certification. |
